JAMB cancels general cut-off marks, Schools to decide their cut-off mark

  The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, on Tuesday, canceled general cut-off marks for admission into tertiary institutions and gave schools the freedom to set their individual minimum benchmarks for admission. The Board took the decision at the 2021 policy meeting, which was held virtually, and chaired by the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu. Speaking during the meeting, Registrar of JAMB, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, said, “Some universities such as the University of Maiduguri, proposed 150; Usman Dan Fodio University, Sokoto, proposed 140; Pan Atlantic University proposed 210; University of Lagos 200; Lagos State University, 190; Covenant University 190; and Bayero University, Kano, 180. "Institutions have now been given the liberty to decide cut-off marks; there will be no cut-off marks [stipulation] from JAMB.” On the deadline for the closure of admissions, the stakeholders resolved to allow the education ministry to decide, as they could not agree on the December 31, 2021

  The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, is not embarking on industrial action from Tuesday, a member of the National Executive Committee, NEC, of the union has said. The NEC member, who is also the Chairman of the University of Lagos, UNILAG, chapter, Dr. Dele Ashiru, in a chat with Vanguard on Monday, explained that there are steps and processes for the union to embark on strike. He, however, agreed that  the union gave the Federal Government up till Tuesday, August 31 , to meet some demands. According to Ashiru, “Yes, we gave the government till the end of this month to meet some demands of ours. “However, assuming that the demands are not met within the stipulated period, we won’t just begin an industrial action that same day. “The reason is that ASUU is not a one-man union and is not run like a one-man show. Kano Extends Resumption Date For Public, Private Schools By One Week

  Kano State Ministry of Education has extended the resumption dates for all public/ private primary and secondary schools in the state by one week. The Commissioner of Education, Malam Muhammad Kiru said that the one week extension was aimed at normalizing the state academic calendar after series of disruptions as a result of the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic. According to him, all boarding school students are to resume on Sunday, September 12, 2021, as against September 5, 2021.   He also disclosed that other categories of students are to resume on Monday, September 13, 2021, as against September 6, 2021, earlier announced.Malam Kiru expressed appreciation to parents and guardians for the support they are according to the ministry, hoping that the tempo will be sustained.He appealed to them to ensure that their wards resume school at the stipulated dates.Meanwhile, the state government has approved the immediate commencement of intensive training for 600 teachers with education bac

  THE Academic Staff Union of Universities has expressed its readiness to embark on another round of industrial action following what it called the failure of the Federal Government to implement an agreement signed with the union. The union is giving the government till month end (Tuesday) to reach out or it will activate the procedure of embarking on strike. The union’s President, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, who disclosed this in an interview with  The PUNCH  on Sunday, added that the FG no longer picked its calls. Recall that in March 2020, ASUU embarked on a strike following its disagreement with the FG over the funding of the universities and the ineffectiveness and discrepancies around the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System and others. NUC Grants Full Accreditation For New Programmes In Ajayi Crowther University (ACU)

  The National Universities Commission (NUC) has granted full accreditation to some postgraduate and undergraduate programmes in Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo, as contained in a letter dated August 2nd, 2021, and forwarded to the University by Dr. Maryam Sali, NUC Director of Accreditation.The Commission stated that the approval of the courses followed its three-day visit to the University April 2021 to undertake a resource accreditation visit where the staff strength and facilities of the programmes were assessed before the grant of full accreditation to two postgraduate programmes in the Faculty of Management Science and four undergraduate programmes in Faculty of Education namely: M.Sc.
