 Emerging report has disclosed that personnel monitoring closed-circuit television (CCTV) at the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) were asleep when bandits attacked the premises on Tuesday.

Vanguard had earlier reported that Nigeria’s foremost military university, the Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna was on Tuesday attacked by bandits who killed two officers and abducted four.

According to sources, the bandits sneaked in through a part of the facility that had no fence.

Another source revealed that “it was in the middle of the night, and the personnel that were meant to be monitoring the CCTV had slept off.”

“They could have put everyone on alert, and avert the attack.”

It was learnt that the academy authorities would court martial some soldiers for failing to secure the area.

BREAKING: Bandits invade NDA, kill two officers, abduct one

Bandits in the early hours of Tuesday invaded the permanent site of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) Kaduna.

They reportedly killed two officers and whisked away another officer.

A source in the Academy said top officers and management of the institution were holding meeting over the incident as at the time of filing this report.

The source said: “Bandits in their large number attacked NDA Afaka and kidnapped 1 Offr; Maj Datong while Lt Cdr Wulah and Flt Lt CM Okoronwo were shot dead. 2Lt Onah sustained gunshot injury and currently receiving treatment.”

The source added the bandits originally attempted to gain entrance into the cadets hostels but were repelled and in the process killed the two officers and abducted the other.

Another source also said the entire surrounding of the Academy has been cordoned off as the military suspect the bandits have not been able to escape from he area.

NDA Public Relations Officer, Major Bashir Jajira, said an official statement on the incident will be released shortly.

NDA, the premier military university, that trains officers for the Armed Forces of Nigeria and some other African countries, is located on Kaduna-Abuja highway and about 10 kilometers away from the Kaduna city centre.

Court recommends out-of-court settlement for FG and ASUU

  A Court of Appeal in Abuja has recommended an out-of-court settlement to the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and the Federal Government, following ASUU’s 14 grounds appeal. Recall that ASUU had filed a 14-grounds appeal over the court order issued by a national industrial court in Abuja asking the union to call off its ongoing strike. Justice Georgewill Biobele Abraham who presided over the case, asked the counsel to the Federal Government, James Igwe (SAN) and that of ASUU, Femi Falana (SAN), to first sit down as lawyers, take a patriotic position and convey the position to their clients.
